The research of the Postoutcomes Network is primarily concerned with four areas: self-determination, technology, coordination of services, and supports and accommodations. The Network continuously shares information on current best practices with educational professionals across the country, through regular Capacity Building Institutes, as well as our ongoing Network list-serve. Each Institute focuses on one or more issues from each of the four Network areas listed below.
Self-Determination Focus:
One of our Network goals is to identify and promote successful
models for curriculum. Actions we have taken to meet this goal:
i) We're communicating with AHEAD, HEATH
and PACER.
ii) We've assimilated research results into documents and resources for
diverse audiences: educators, policy-makers, individuals with disabilities
and their families.
Technology Focus:
One of our Network goals is to identify, improve and promote
access to (and usage of!) technology. Actions we have taken to meet this
goal:
i) We're actively communicating with AHEAD
and HEATH, PACER,
RSA, ASCD
and EASI.
ii) We're researching the current and potential roles of technology in the
preparation of youth with disabilities for successful employment.
iii) Our research will contribute to the national knowledge base on potential
applications for technology in the process of transition and employment
for individuals with disabilities.
Coordination Services Focus:
One of our Network goals is to identify and promote models
that successfully coordinate and manage educational supports and services.
Actions we have taken to meet this goal:
i) We're actively communicating with all of the above organizations as well
as NGA (National Governors Asssociation--
www.nga.org).
ii) We're researching successful methods of coordinating and managing services
for individuals with disabilities.
Supports and Accommodations Focus:
One of our Network goals is to identify and promote models
that really yield successful outcomes for youth with disabilities. Actions
we have taken to meet this goal:
i) Our continual communication with OSEP (Office of Special Education Programs),
OEIR, ACSD and NGA
ii) We're researching how Federal mandates are actually being applied across
the different environments of postsecondary education, transition and employment
