CBI: Enhancing Transition to Postsecondary Education and Employment for Youth with Disabilities through Culturally Relevant Supports, Services, and Education

Invited Speakers: Bea Awoniyi, MS

Bea Awoniyi, MS is the director of the Disability Resources Office at Iowa State University, a position she’s held for 3 years and where she also sits on the President’s Committee on Diversity. Prior to moving to Iowa, Bea was the Special Services Coordinator and chaired the Diversity Committee for Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colorado and was also the chair of the Colorado-Wyoming Disability Service Providers. She is the co-chair of the Diversity Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Association of Higher Education and Disabilities (AHEAD). She frequently attends Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings at the high school level and works with parents of children from the African American Community. Originally from Nigeria, Bea has advocated for inclusion since the 1970s throughout the Nigerian school system. Bea is pursuing her Ph.D. at the Colorado State University focusing on transition, self-determination, and postsecondary support for students with Attention Deficit Disorders.
