Preparing for Postsecondary Education

A new Web site from the Institute on Community Inclusion, University of Massachusetts-Boston, designed to provide information to students with cognitive disabilities who are interested in finding ways to attend college. The site includes information for students, family members, and professionals, and features a searchable database of postsecondary education programs, a discussion board designed by students, a listserv, and links to Web-based resources.

Academic Strategies for Achievement Program (ASAP)
This program, conducted at the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Workplace Supports at Virginia Commonwealth University, is using and evaluating interventions for the academic success of students with learning disabilities. The program is currently underway and will be evaluating the impact of the interventions.

Assessing Students with Disabilities: Transition Planning for the IEP (Transition Coalition)

This site provides information and resources to persons wanting to do assessment for transition planning. Good assessment is the basis for meaningful planning for students, families, and schools as they consider transition needs and needed transition services in the IEP process.

Center on Education and Work

The Center on Education and Work, located at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is designing, delivering, and evaluating a distance-education program that prepares college staff to develop and implement summer college preparation programs for individuals with disabilities who have enrolled but not yet begun college.

Person-centered planning involves the development of a “toolbox” of methods and resources that enable people with disability labels to choose their own paths to success; the planners simply help them to figure out where they want to go and how best to get there.

The Ohio State University Partnership Grant

Faculty, students, and administrators of Ohio State University are developing innovative, effective, and efficient teaching methods in post-secondary education for students with disabilities through a partnership among numerous university offices.
